I compose with wood, blending grain, texture, hue, and line to create WoodScapes from Maine native hardwoods, typically maple with accents of walnut, cherry, elm, and perhaps a touch of exotic purpleheart just for spice. The process – from the first draft, cut, and glue, to the final sand and polish – is for me a meditative one much like the solitary art of whittling. The resulting WoodScape, whether a Personality Board's unique posture or a Serving Board's scenic character, must be as pleasing to the hand as it is to the eye. I finish each piece with a triple coat of beeswax and orange oil or food-friendly polyurethane with the expectation that owners will enjoy using these WoodScapes as functional serving or cutting boards. Each individually crafted work is numbered for authenticity.
Serving Boards (illustrated on right), ranging from eight inches to 16 inches wide, are priced between $35 to $85.
Personality Boards (illustrated above), ranging from ten inches to 16 inches tall, are priced between $55 to $85.
